"But, this time Mr. Barg said I had to move the stand out of my way, I had to use big gestures (even if they felt silly), I had to close my eyes, and I couldnʼt conduct beats, I needed to conduct the music. That moment, by far, has been one of the scariest moments of my life. It required me to completely break down every wall and overcome every insecurity, but I did it. And it was incredible.

I had never felt so free or so sure of myself as a person, as a musician, and as a leader. That moment left a permanent change in my personality, and because of it I have been free to try and fail many times.

A few days later, at the final concert for camp, we had just finished our last piece and everyone was exiting the stage. Mr. Barg was standing at the bottom of the stairs, congratulating everyone as he normally does.

"David Barg transforms the lives of those fortunate enough to work with him. He certainly changed my life, both as a musician and as a person. As a musician, I learned lessons from Mr. Barg that I still carry with me today, 7 years after the last time I played under him at a summer music camp.

Personally, David Barg helped me discover what it feels like to believe that I am capable of anything; he showed me what it feels like to have someone believe in you absolutely, without qualification.
I will never cease to draw inspiration from the support he has given me over the years, as a teacher, mentor, and friend. My interactions with Mr. Barg have continually given me confidence and hope in developing myself as a musician, as a person, and (now) as an educator.

I'll comment on this one, myself (this is David):

I can't express how I felt - and still feel more than ten years later - when these young violinists from one of my festival orchestras showed up dressed for the campaign trail.

My reaction was one of profound gratitude for winning the trust of these young women.  I count the message of this photo as one of the great blessings in my life.
